Dicen que, a mediados de 1860, llego de Italia a la ciudad de La Paz un \u201cbachichi\u201d simp\u00e1tico y decidor, buen mozo y de gran parada, para el a\u00f1o que lo presentamos lucia apenas la edad de Cristo, nada m\u00e1s ni nada menos que Don Domingo Lorini.Por azares del destino llego a tierras americanas, este personaje adem\u00e1s de su militancia guerrera era profesional consagrado a la farmacopea y como tal, despu\u00e9s de la campana uruguayo-argentina se instal\u00f3 en Buenos Aires.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-6821669 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"6821669\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>A poco de estar all\u00ed m\u00e1s le atrajo Bolivia y aconsejado por las referencias que le diera Bartolom\u00e9 Mitre, quien hab\u00eda vivido en nuestro pa\u00eds desterrado por la dictadura del tirano Rosas, Lorini se traslad\u00f3 a La Paz y esta bella ciudad lo acogi\u00f3 con benepl\u00e1cito. Como experto en las artes medicinales llego a ser el boticario m\u00e1s acreditado de La Paz, all\u00e1 por el a\u00f1o 1860. Lorini, hombre inteligente y h\u00e1bil qu\u00edmico, desde ese momento se dedic\u00f3 con ahinc\u00f3 a la tarea de examinar con detenimiento y mucho inter\u00e9s las propiedades medicinales de la hoja de coca y entre retortas, redomas y alambiques estudio cient\u00edficamente los secretos de esas hojas misteriosas, hizo decantaciones, pruebas de infusi\u00f3n, maceraciones y \u201ctutti quanti\u201d llegando a descubrir el clorhidrato de coca\u00edna y sus cualidades, altamente medicinales para el \u201cbien de la humanidad\u201d Tambi\u00e9n estudio sus derivaciones negativas, fatales para la perversi\u00f3n y el vicio, que se iba a imaginar nuestro ilustre personaje que lo que ocurrir\u00eda en el pr\u00f3ximo siglo era una bomba at\u00f3mica! Nace bajo el nombre de \u201cSecci\u00f3n Farmacia\u201d de la Facultad de Ciencias M\u00e9dicas, la que es hoy la Facultad de Ciencias Farmac\u00e9uticas y Bioqu\u00edmicas. Su fundador, Domingo Lorini, recibi\u00f3 el t\u00edtulo de \u201cDoctor en Farmacia\u201d en 1864, se establece en La Paz en 1867 revalidando su t\u00edtulo ante el Protomedicato. El Dr. Lorini nunca dej\u00f3 de ser profesor universitario, trabaj\u00f3 41 a\u00f1os en la actividad docente. Dej\u00f3 una escuela de seguidores como Etelberto Coello, creador del primer Jard\u00edn Bot\u00e1nico, Samuel Lorini (hijo), Jos\u00e9 Salm\u00f3n Ballivian y muchos otros.
